Richards Dimples Fields — Your Wife Is Cheatin’ On Us (1984)

June 23rd, 2009

Friend of mine once said to me that this song resembles Michael Jackson a lot. I instantly realized that this is it: a poor man’s Michael Jackson. Not quite as good as Baby Be Mine but still very good electrofunk of the 80s. The track is typical to Dimples Fields: he sings with his soft-toned voice about his lovelife; in this case, about wife who is cheating on us.

Richard ‘Dimples’ Fields got his nick from a girl who observed him smiling a lot (not to be confused with Dimples D).

I believe this could almost be desribed as “fishnet funk”, a style of funk music from late 80’s & early 90s. You know, this kind.

Richard Fields died in 2000 at the age of 58.

Al Green – Everything’s Gonna Be Alright (1987)

Al Green — Everything’s Gonna Be Alright (4:24) (320 kbps, 10,1 MB)

Soul? Gospel? Boogie? Electro-Funk? Song’s from the album Soul Survivor. At this point of his career Al Green was making gospel tunes and had become an ordained pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Memphis in 1976. Thereby this would probably be regarded as — gasp — gospel. Gospel with drum machine and synths. Oh, and there’s also a music video.
