I’d rather dance to this with a fine lady. Hah.

Mix of the Week #1
(Mix of the Week is our weekly section where we present good mixtapes: either our own or found on the internets)

Bunch of house tracks that I’ve been enjoying lately and some alltime favorite songs as well. I wonder if one can ever get tired of Kenny Dope’s The Bomb,eh? Lots of MAW works here and one proto-house, not too shabby!

It’s raining and I’m sitting outdoors, nearby local library. Thank god for HI-TECH (free wlan). Summer in Rovaniemi has been super nice until now.
So, Midsummer’s party all gone and forgotten. Here’s still a quick recap on my part: happened to find lots of Dance Mania Records tunes on spotify (what a treat — now I’ll have to get an account). Put records on platters at Kauppayhtiö. Found my way half accidentally to an afterparty, passed out onto a couch (bad mistake d-u-h) and left behind half full bottle of my kinda brand of spirit when leaving early in the morning. Had to take a cab back home — too long a walk with record bag, being still drunk and all that usual. At least the taxi driver seemed to be amused.
I’ve felt kinda laidback since. That’s always reason enough for posting smooth a tune.
This one by p-funk fam extraordinaire is maybe not so obscure but perhaps bit forgotten slowish jam. It can be found from the album T.A.P.O.A.F.O.M. which is an acronym of “The Awesome Power of a Fully-Operational Mothership”.

Pierre Akendengue is one of the great masters of contemporary African music, and has been that for nearly four decades.
Vigego is a song written by Akendengue and it is on the b-side of Epuguzu 12″. I think this could be defined as Zouk music (and a fusion of many other styles), which means “party” or “festival”. In Africa, it is very popular style of rhythm music in francophone countries.
A-side (Epuguzu) is what could be described as “afro cosmic”. Very suitable material for cosmic remix/edit. But more of that later…
It seems that Epuguzu 12″ is quite highpriced at discogs marketplace. How did the record end up here, the Arctic Circle, that I don’t know. I was just damn lucky to get it for 1€ from local flea market.

It’s weekend alright!
I remember once asking a German exchange student group about this song if they had heard of it. Turned out they didn’t know anything about this even though I singed it aloud.
Werner Wichtigs Pump Ab Das Bier (“Tap beer!”) is a German cover of Technotronics ultrafamous housecut Pump Up The Jam. Werner Wichtig (Raimund Thielcke) actually had brewer training so it sounds natural for him to sing “aua das schmeckt so gut”.
Interestingly the record came out as mini cd single. I guess it was quite new back then as the format was released in 1988.
