Five Star — Sky (1986)

Track #4 of the KynyNasty Vol. 1  is the b-side of Find The Time 12″/7″ and what an awesome track it is! Perhaps my favorite find this year (the 7″ was just sitting there on my shelf, waiting to be founded).

Five star were a group of five siblings with their father as their manager. Their fame peaked in 1986 as Find The Time was released.

The lead track is pure 80s pop/r&b but Sky is pure 80s electro/synth-pop in the likeness of Paul Hardcastle’s production. Seriously, I’m out of words on this one. Hidden gem.

Bergenline Locos: House Freaks! (Tahitian Mix) (1989)

Famous finnish record shop Lifesaver is closing down by the end of september. Makes me feel sad. It was pretty much only serious record shop in Finland for some of that funk, disco, rap, house, and basicly any club/dance music genre besides trance and that kinda stuff. Especially the second hand section was full of treasures. Might have something to do with the fact that some of the guys behind counter were crate digging all over the world and bringing lots of stuff back home to be sold at the shop. AND SO DID IT HAPPEN THAT THIS WAS JUST TEMPORARILY SO. NEW OWNERS OF THE SHOP CONTINUE. LONG LIVE THE LIFESAVER!

This house track here was found amongst 2nd hand stuff from Lifesaver. Provided by Metropolitan Recording Corporation whose 12″ records seem to have “spoken word” tracks on em: interviews with producers, advertising future releases and giving previews/pre-listens of upcoming tracks + giving shout outs to people. Wicked! Wicked! Wonder if that has been common thing to do?

Hello! I am expanding my mind as we speak. I’ve now settled in to my new apartment in Hasselt, Belgium where I’m going to live for the next 4–6 months. Anyways I’m off to Amsterdam tomorrow. Hopefully (definitely) some record digging at local flea markets and second-hand stores and maybe some local “deli” too. I’ll try to post the rest of the mix at least track per every second day.

Track #3 off the KynyNasty Vol. 1. Expansions ’86 is a collaboration of David Joseph and Chris Paul. DJ Chris Paul is man of many aliases and roles (DJ, Producer, Remixer, Promoter, Writer, Composer, pro piano player, sax player). Experienced professional indeed but I think his website is still living in the past. Maybe not a classic like You Can’t Hide Your Love (which Ian Pooley turned into deep house jam, nice) but still good.

Bernard Edwards — Glad To Be Here (1983)

The co-founding member and bassist of Chic recorded one album under his own name. While the title track is not nearly as good as Your Love Is Good To Me, it still manages to amuse with vocoder and funky groove. Good track to start a set with. What it would need is more LINN DRUM! Track #2 of KynyNasty Vol. 1.

Track #1 of the KynyNasty vol. 1 mixtape. Perhaps my second favorite song by Orlando Johnson just after Fantasize. Too bad I did’t mix the (Remixed Scratch Version). Very funny and enjoyable scratches indeed but this is the original cut from the album Turn The Music On. Very nice laidback italoboogie groove!
