Bohannon – Dance And Shout (320k)

Disco is what Hamilton F. Bohannon’s known for. That authentic 70s stuff. Some crazy Germans have even named a club after him in Berlin. As of me – I’m having a lazy day. I’m being not-a-productive-member-of-society.

This piece by Hamilton offers a take on what sounds a bit like the jacking tracks of Chicago. Right now just fine for a moment of coffee and random thoughts: “Should I cut my long hair? Is this a good day for shopping? (YES IT IS, ALCOHOL TAXES WILL RISE TOMORROW IN FINLAND WHICH OF COURSE MEANS U NEEDS TO PAY MORE FOR BUYING E.G. BEER!) This track by Bohannon would maybe need an edit to max out the hidden Chicago trax house potential in it.. Hmmm. Am I going out this weekend, and if so, am I going to drink alco or coffee – and should I also try to pick up on women? Why ain’t there any ‘singles bars’ in Rovaniemi? Or is it that I just don’t know about those places? And defo ain’t gonna hear any house music if going out on weekend. Gutted”.

This one is from the LP titled ‘Powermix – Summerparty’. One side has mixed versions (sequenced, to be exact) of the tracks and the other has original versions. What can I say about the track. Play this at some party and see how the crowd reacts. In Finland, most people won’t probably even notice if they are drunk enough. It’s always nice to have peculiar versions of well-known songs. Mr Jack – Wiggly World (Radio Boogie) (320k)

Never mind the overly used vocal sample here which by the way still rocks in its original form. This fast tempo discoish house track slams, even though bordering on cheese. Mr Jack = Junior Jack earlier on in his career. Friday night, here I come!

On a somehow more serious note here’s excellent musings on music industry nowdays – how all these “modern technology things” are affecting artists etc. Spotify, Youtube and “hype” mentioned deya.

Greg Phillinganes is a top notch keyboardist and vocalist who has been touring/recording with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder for instance. Only You is on the flip-side of Behind The Mask 12″. Behind The Mask is a song originally by Yellow Magic Orchestra. Michael Jackson did a version of it (with additional lyrics) and it was supposed to be on Thriller, but it was ultimately left out. However Greg asked if he could release his own version of it and so it happened.

Only You could be Bill Wither’s song. Why? Because it is co-written by the man. Like it. Track #10 of KynyNasty Vol. 1.

This one’s from winter 2009. Mostly house in its various forms. I remember having an idea to make a mixtape for promoting and illustrating the housier ends of our KynyNasty/BoogieNasty nights but don’t remember if I did so… I mean the promoting and such. Selection was – surprisingly – based on what I was feeling at the time (still do, all of them). Some old and some new stuff, some more “organic”, some more synthy.
