Bros — I Quit (The Acidic Mix) (320k)

Back in late 80s they used to have acid house remixes of boy pop band tunes in Britain. That’s something I didn’t know back then but Bros as a phenomenon was familiar to me because of this Finnish popular culture magazine (not talking about that particular issue).

Timmo — Finnish UG Deep Vol. 1 [Platinum.ac Deep Techno] (320k, 113MB, 49:42 min)

Here’s the story — finnish internetz forum Platinum used to be pretty much number one for some electronic music back in the days. Don’t know about nowdays. So, this Timmo guy of a dj decided to make a mix out of “deeper techno” demo tunes he had collected from Platinum forum during the years 2000–2003. So here you go, all finnish music.

Oh and never mind the last mix between tunes by Akrid and Harrison Fnord, Serato going mental probably because of dust on the needle.

Bonus one too. Can’t make up my mind if this is once again those utterly unnecessary “modernized” cover versions of 80s goodness. I like the video though.

Todd Terry Project — Weekend (Remix) (1995)

Weekend

There are a lot of things to be say about Todd “God” Terry.

–Todd Terry has always preferred rap and freestyle over disco or house.
–Maybe that’s why he infused those styles into his identifiable style of house music. Or was it because he couldn’t get a deal for the rap?
–At the beginning he was just copying what the Chicago producers did but while they always mimicked the disco records, Terry sampled straight loops.
–His favorite sound sources include Arthur Russell and Marshall Jefferson.

–He might have been among the first people who created the template for sample-driven dance music.
–As a doer, not as a studio perfectionist he created astonishing amount of material at the time when “Party People” came out. A week for a single, two weeks for an album.

What we have here is Greed’s remix of  Terry’s “remix” of Class Action’s Weekend. And an accappella to go with, or orecapella in this case.

Savage Progress — My Soul Unwraps Tonight (Extended Mix) (320k)

Right. Tomorrow’s gonna be Finland’s independence day. I’mma take it slow then. But tonight… Well, get drunk while dancing my ass off at a party I’m going to — see the flyer above.

Today’s cuisine at the moment is finnish lager beer, cheap whiskey, and cheese chips while getting ready for the night. Theme of the lyrics for “My Soul Unwraps Tonight” kinda contribute to the overall feeling. Or not. Slow tempo synthy pop funk disco new wave whatever with sorta cosmic vibes fits this moment anyways.
