Uploading – at least to youtube – Prince’s original version of Erotic City is out of the question , so here is the George Clinton’s version edited by Sasso. Perhaps unnecessary edit but nevertheless useful. If you ever become tired to Prince’s falsetto you can play out loud this version as it is faithful to the original.

‘Erotic City’ is definitely in my personal all-time top 10 or something like that.

Lindelltronics – Avarrusfunk (320k)

Tommi Lindell is a synthesizer wizard of some sorta from the younger generation in Finland. He has had his fingerprints on many things since early 80s through composing, arranging, producing or just by playing instruments on many many Finnish albums. This Lindelltronics thing is more or less a project which has elements of humor innit. “Avarrusfunk” is nevertheless a great instrumental electro-funk cut from Trendibuumi album (Trendibuumi is a Finnish word meaning something like trend craze).

The older generation of Finnish synthy heroes? Erkki Kurenniemi and Esa Kotilainen are perhaps the biggest names.

There are a lot of things to be say about Todd “God” Terry.

-Todd Terry has always preferred rap and freestyle over disco or house.
-Maybe that’s why he infused those styles into his identifiable style of house music. Or was it because he couldn’t get a deal for the rap?
-At the beginning he was just copying what the Chicago producers did but while they always mimicked the disco records, Terry sampled straight loops.
-His favorite sound sources include Arthur Russell and Marshall Jefferson.

-He might have been among the first people who created the template for sample-driven dance music.
-As a doer, not as a studio perfectionist he created astonishing amount of material at the time when “Party People” came out. A week for a single, two weeks for an album.

What we have here is Greed’s remix of  Terry’s “remix” of Class Action’s Weekend. And an accappella to go with, or orecapella in this case.

Leftfield – Release 3 (320k)

The debate circulating around the roots of dubstep has been going on for years, guess it would have been so ever since the generic term dubstep came into prominence sometime around 2002.

I won’t be getting into depths with this thing right now but related to topic here’s an interesting track by Leftfield. As can be seen this cut is already some 14 years old. Proto-dubstep?

It was a good day – yesterday I’m talking about. Some nice stuff from local flea market for dirty cheap. This one by Robert Owens happened to hit me hard. The original version was a crossover hit in 1991. This remix was put together by David Morales. Somewhat a legend also…

The jacket pictured above I bought from another flea market at the very same day. Woo-ha!
