Neil Young – Sample And Hold (320k)

OooOooo Canada, what’s left after the olympics? In Finland they used to hand out vinyl copies of Neil Young’s “Lucky Thirteen” album to doctors. That was like in the nineties and they = medicine companies. Nowdays these “gifts” are more like Viagra mousepads or such (both true stories).

This is not deep knowledge or anything but Neil Young did have his moments with synthesizers and vocoder. “Sample And Hold” is a prime example of that. Here’s what was previously unreleased version of the song from the aforementioned “Lucky Thirteen” album (1993). Almost three minutes shorter original version came out on “Trans” album in 1982.

A detail to be noticed here: drum hits are nicely offbeat from time to time. And no doctors in my family.

Marcus Lewis – The Club (Vocal) (1988)

Marcus Lewis – The Club (Vocal) (320k)

Fresh from work as it’s 5:49 AM at the moment. Work = dj’ing at a local “mainstream night club” = play anything as long as people will keep on dancing but remember it might be preferable to play something people will recognize to keep them on the dancefloor. Sometimes you’ll get away just fine with some non-mainstream music. So anyways, we had a foam party this night. Huh?

About today’s song: is it house? Or disco? Grooves seriously + synths included, whatever the genre tag. Marcus Lewis seems to be one of those guys who faded into obscurity after few releases. This rip is from 12″ single, length 7:57.

Isaac Hayes Movement – Disco Connection (320k)

I love me some authentic disco music. This is the dancefloor jam. Sorry for slightly bad quality – it’s an album rip. The video is one of the best ones I’ve seen in a while even though it is most likely a set up situation.

This nice list of books related to disco/house/club/etc. music & culture is strongly recommended – check it over at DJhistory.com – some of those are essential reading.

Mick Jagger – Just Another Night (Dub Mix) (1985)

Mick Jagger – Just Another Night (Dub Mix) (320k)

So in love with this song at the moment. Recommended for the fans of Holy Ghost! – just to reference a relevant band which is like hot at the moment – or has been so already since last summer or was it even earlier, like 2007?

Guess you just can’t go wrong with a team consisting of François Kevorkian, Bill Laswell and uhmm, Arthur Baker. This dub mix was remixed by François Kevorkian and Paul “Groucho” Smykle. And just like pretty much most of the tunes blogged so far this 12″ was bought as a 2nd hand purchase from somewhere in Rovaniemi.

+ yeah phew, trying to get back to the habit of listing top KynyNasty kinda tunes or something, monthly that it is: http://fu7even.com/dj/plist.html.
