During the years this was also released as “This Brutal House”. A cult anthem — it’s considered being one of the definitive early house tracks. Nitro Deluxe used to perform with a variety of funk and jazz groups including Sun Ra’s Arkestra(!) before he started creating house tracks. Loving the synthy solo starting somewhere around 4:04 minutes.
“House Arrest” is considered being one of the pioneering examples of British house music and it had major crossover success in the late 80s. Also a little bit about the producers behind this song; Mark Brydon is probably best known from Moloko. Robert Gordon is someone you should get to know as a producer. He’s acknowledged as one of the godfathers of bleep and bass scene and he’s also a co-founder of Warp Records (though he left the label in 1991).
Tracky (euro-)house. Familiar loop there. Bit cheesy maybe? Mix this with some ghetto house and it sounds somehow whole different. All about context.
With a couple of rarities (Kerim Khan, Phil Steele), exclusive track (Topless), essentials (Holy Ghost!, Ali Love) and all-time personal favorites (Laid Back, Seymour Bits, Roy Davis Jr) I’m quite comfortable with this new live dj mix. Electro soul satisfaction guaranteed.
