This Is How We Swing Mixtape

February 11th, 2011

Music from and inspired by Finnish sketch comedy shows Pulttibois and Manitbois. Might have some added value for Finns but certainly you’ll be able to enjoy the mix on it’s own! The music here ranges from the years 1985 to 1990. A melting pot of delightful new jack swing, hip-house, breaks, funk and house with distinctive Pirkka-Pekka Petelius-style, who is widely known as a reggae enthusiast.

Musiikkia ja vaikutteita sketsisarjoista Pulttibois ja Manitbois. Mukana myös muita samanhenkisiä biisejä. Hymyilyttävää ja raajoja liikuttavaa meininkiä. Sarjat sisälsivät aikanaan paitsi mieleenpainuvia hokemia, myös ajankohtaista musiikkia eri genreistä. Pirkka-Pekka mitä helevettiä?

Jatkamme, saamme kenties elää.

2011 — the future? 2 weeks already into new year. So yesterday I jammed a bit and before midday today got it made. Mexxed up in Rovaniemi. One take, live, wax, semi improvised. With a human feel (= some errors in the system called beat matching).

Mix by Japanese turntable virtuoso DJ Sniff. Techno tracks played at 33rpm + various hip-hop cuts. The guy is performing at Äänen Lumo –festival (Charm of Sounds), Helsinki this saturday together with David Toop. Don’t know exactly what to expect but should be interesting.

robot techno halay

Overload of syncopated drum machines and synthetic bagpipe sounds — might be too heavy for some to bear! This mixtape’s a true gem for anyone interested of techno halay since it’s hard to find that sorta music first place. I have no further idea of what it is all about — besides it being party music I guess. And also that it might be Kurdish stuff.

Oh sure of course duh how could I almost forget: this is once again a living proof of the connection between dance style and certain music. Think also about Detroit ghettotech & jitting, Chicago juke & footwerk, and Los Angeles jerk & jerking (kinda poor examples since they’re western music — other examples might be some South-African variants of house music + certain dance styles/moves and obviously reggaeton. I need to investigate more).
