Back in late 80s they used to have acid house remixes of boy pop band tunes in Britain. That’s something I didn’t know back then but Bros as a phenomenon was familiar to me because of this Finnish popular culture magazine (not talking about that particular issue).
I’ll be DJing today for 5 hours in a local Jack & Jones clothes shop. Heard someone there wanted it to be ALL MICHAEL JACKSON MUSIC. Reasons unknown. Think it ain’t gonna be only Michael. Anyways, I’ll try my best to keep it in the Jackson’s family. Some other bits and pieces thrown in for some change of tone, though.
Below is what they was gonna release originally but for some reasons it was Mick who ended up being on the record.
Love/Hate is from Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack, produced by Andre Cymone. I’ve just recently “grown” to love 80s new jack swing and R&B and this track is probably one of my favorites. Mechanized R&B.
Pebbles is also known as the former manager of 90s R&B supergroup TLC. Nowadays she has abandoned entertainment industry as she became a born again Christian in 1997 and is now known as Sister Perri. Gotta look for the 12″ even though in this case the sound is slightly more bland compared to the album version.
First thing that comes in mind when someone mentions Ray Parker Jr.? Kinda obvious but hey, maybe I’ll call Jamie! In an interview he was asked…
Judy: I wouldn’t be so rude as to ask just how much money you made from the Ghostbusters song. But can you tell us – was it more than a hundred pounds?
Ray Parker Jr.: Yes.
Richard: Considerably more?
Ray Parker Jr.: More than a hundred pounds a minute, forever.
Judy: You mean for the rest of time? For eternity?
Ray Parker Jr.: Probably, yes.
Make it sound like “I Want a New Drug” the films producers said. And Ray did.
Track #6from the KynyNasty Vol. 1. Released only as 7″ and as a part of Chartbusters LP. I had to loop it a bit for the mix. Worry not, here is the original.
I remember once asking a German exchange student group about this song if they had heard of it. Turned out they didn’t know anything about this even though I singed it aloud.
Werner Wichtigs Pump Ab Das Bier (“Tap beer!”) is a German cover of Technotronics ultrafamous housecut Pump Up The Jam. Werner Wichtig (Raimund Thielcke) actually had brewer training so it sounds natural for him to sing “aua das schmeckt so gut”.
Interestingly the record came out as mini cd single. I guess it was quite new back then as the format was released in 1988.
