Jah Wobble + Ollie Marland – Running Away (320k)

Jah Wobble’s best known for his bass playing skills and being a member of PiL. What he’s doing nowdays is this for example. Ollie Marland has been playing the world’s biggest stages on several tours as keyboarder for Tina Turner and Cher. This r&b cut features the vocals of Lorna Rowe.

Pebbles – Love/Hate (1987)

Love/Hate is from Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack, produced by Andre Cymone. I’ve just recently “grown” to love 80s new jack swing and R&B and this track is probably one of my favorites. Mechanized R&B.

Pebbles is also known as the former manager of 90s R&B supergroup TLC. Nowadays she has abandoned entertainment industry as she became a born again Christian in 1997 and is now known as Sister Perri. Gotta look for the 12″ even though in this case the sound is slightly more bland compared to the album version.

Frank Stallone – Take You Back (320k)

It’s the first one on the b-side, by Sylvester’s brother, and it’s from The Rocky III Original Motion Picture Score LP. Frank’s the vocalist here while legendary Bill Conti scored, conducted and orchestrated almost the whole original score. This track is one of the exceptions though, being produced and arranged by Charles Calello.

Why does it feel like it’s sunday already?

Imagination

Right about now I’m drinking beer and blogging from Berlin. Visited lots of record stores and ‘plattenbörsen’ and my bag is really heavy now I can tell you. Many good tracks to be blogged in the near future!

Track #7 from the KynyNasty Vol. 1 is ‘Changes’ by Imagination which was British funk/soul/disco/pop band with lots of chart hits. When I first heard ‘Changes’ (I think it was the first) I thought they had female vocal lead. Not the first time for me to be wrong though. This song is from the album In The Heat Of The Night (excuse for the slightly poor quality, go buy the 12″, it’s cheap). The visual aesthetic is really enjoyable too. Like seriously. Boogie?

Melba Moore: Got To Have Your Love (11,8MB 5:05 min)

One of the greatest r&b singers with somehow fishnet funkish r&b? Seriously grooving live bass playing provided by Wayne Brathwaite. And the swing on the drum machine, ah, it really does it for me. I’m running out of words now.
