Cameo — I Want It Now (music video)

June 10th, 2011

Dj is a god? 90s Cameo is something to be investigated more. This new jack swing tune is pure summertime pleaser.

Bernard Wright – Who Do You Love (1985)

February 4th, 2011

HUH & HAH! Upright bass. Jimi Hendrix looks. John Coltrane poster on the wall. Sincerity of Bernard. The breakdown part of the song starting at 2:27. Not a single misstep in the video — or in the song. Pure aesthetic pleasure.

Isley Jasper Isley — Look The Other Way

January 25th, 2011

So Ernie Isley, Chris Jasper, and Marvin Isley really made a proper song to finish a good night of dj’ing. And yes, they’re of Isley Brothers fame. There were some creative differences within that supergroup which led to forming of Isley Jasper Isley in 1984.

+ I love handclaps.

Ruffin & Kendrick — You Only Get What You Put Out (320k)

What a smooth tune by Ruffin & Kendrick of The Temptations fame who later left the group and had this duo thing going on — and eventually went onto solo careers. At least Kendrick.

This has been my spring time jam since 2008. Those moments when the snare drum gets some extra crack’n’reverb really do enhance the message of the lyrics. Lately I’ve been having some wet dreams that in a parallel universe this song has also some juicy boogie-y synthesizer as another lead instrument. Nevertheless, A Classic.

Jah Wobble + Ollie Marland — Running Away (320k)

Jah Wobble’s best known for his bass playing skills and being a member of PiL. What he’s doing nowdays is this for example. Ollie Marland has been playing the world’s biggest stages on several tours as keyboarder for Tina Turner and Cher. This r&b cut features the vocals of Lorna Rowe.
