Paul Gardiner — Stormtrooper in Drag (1981)

March 2nd, 2010

“Stormtrooper in Drag” by the late Paul Gardiner is often credited to Gary Numan. Maybe because Numan contributed not only the production and co-composing but also played, sang the lead vocals and released it on his label.

After this release the pair drifted away because of Gardiners escalating drug use. This alienated Numan, who himself claimed absistence of drugs. The lyrics of Stormtroopers in Drag and the death of Paul Gardiner both had something to do with drugs.

Jacksons feat Mick Jagger — State Of Shock (320k)

I’ll be DJing today for 5 hours in a local Jack & Jones clothes shop. Heard someone there wanted it to be ALL MICHAEL JACKSON MUSIC. Reasons unknown. Think it ain’t gonna be only Michael. Anyways, I’ll try my best to keep it in the Jackson’s family. Some other bits and pieces thrown in for some change of tone, though.

Below is what they was gonna release originally but for some reasons it was Mick who ended up being on the record.

The first actual post is about some rare finnish disco-rock coversong called ‘Naisen Haluan’ (= I want a woman) by Jakke & Jokke.
I found this song couple of years ago from the album ‘Hittiparaati 10′ (1979) which is a compilation of finnish pop songs. This ‘Hittiparaati 10′ was actually in a sleeve of ‘The best of Italo-Disco vol. 10′ which I found from local second-hand shop.

The song sounds kind of like Prince and to be exact, his Jamie Starr pseudonym in sideproject called ‘The Time’.
Especially the vocals but the rest of track is much more heavier with guitars and stuff. The electric bass sounds good. It has a short synthsolo towards to the end but it leaves you demanding more of it.

There aren’t much information about the performers Jakke & Jokke. Jokke is a pseudonym for Jorma Seppälä and he has arranged couple of songs for eurovision contest in 1985. It seems that they did not make it to the main contest. It also appears that they have had some kind of connection with Danny and Kirka. Jokke has composed few songs for Kirka and been also singing in the background. They are musicians at the very least.

As I said at the beginning, ‘Naisen Haluan’ is actually a cover of Supercharge’s ‘I can see right through you’ from the album ‘Bodyrhythm’ (Virgin 12118, 1979).

Supercharge is kind of British disco-rock band on Virgin label in late 1970’s led by Robert John “Mutt” Lange.

The original song is much longer clocking over 6 minutes while the finnish cover is 3 minutes. The latter part of the song consists breaks and stuff, ready to be sampled and suitable for doing remake or edit or whatever. There exists 12″ and 7″ of ‘Naisen Haluan’ with catalog# Polarvox rps 130. If anybody has a spare copy, please send me e-mail. The Supercharge single is not that rare if you look into right places. But beware, some people ask over 50 pounds of it while others are satisfied with 5.
