Al Festa — Living After Death

October 27th, 2010

Equally suitable for Top Gun or… Zombie 4: After Death! I’m getting Europe vibes through my spine.

Frank Stallone – Take You Back (1982)

Frank Stallone — Take You Back (320k)

It’s the first one on the b-side, by Sylvester’s brother, and it’s from The Rocky III Original Motion Picture Score LP. Frank’s the vocalist here while legendary Bill Conti scored, conducted and orchestrated almost the whole original score. This track is one of the exceptions though, being produced and arranged by Charles Calello.

Why does it feel like it’s sunday already?

The New Barbarians

July 29th, 2008

While The Bronx Warriors was Warriors rip-off, The New Barbarians (aka I nuovi barbari, Metropolis 2000; Warriors of the Wasteland) is Mad Max 2 rip-off! It’s Italian post-apocalyptic movie with music by Claudio Simonetti. Let the trailer speak for itself. It brings together the best parts of the movie.

The soundtrack quality is quaranteed. According to Claudio himself; Roland Jupiter-8, Minimoog, Roland vocoder were the machines used. Anyway, here is an edit I made. The original song falls a little short so I extented it and added more drums.

1990: The Bronx Warriors

July 23rd, 2008

1990: I guerrieri del Bronx is an Italian exploitation movie rip-off of Escape From New York and The Warriors with intensive and powerful prog rock/synth soundtrack by Walter Rizzatti. It’s one of those movies you gladly reminisce when you forget the overall quality of the film. Still quite entertaining.

The opening sequence in itself is top quality and much better than watching the entire film. One should stick with these scenes and the soundtrack. You won’t need to watch the whole movie.

The opening theme sounds like it’s done by the evil brother of Gary Moore.

The Warriors aka Soturit — can you dig it ?

The Warriors aka Soturit (1979)

Mikä ?
Kouriintuntuvasti haikeutta herättävä jengikuvaus sijoittuu futuristiseen 70-luvun lopun New Yorkiin.
Inspiraationsa se ammentaa Sol Yurickin samannimisestä novelliista.

Parasta
+Suorasukainen maailmankuva
+Railakas toiminta
+Synkkä tunnelma/värit
+Öinen New York
+Korni dialogi

Ja tietenkin suurenmoinen synteettinen ääniraita jonka meille sävelsi Barry De Vorzon.
Tästä näytteenä meillä on itse teemamusiikki, joka löytyy myös kohtuu tuoreelta Disco Galaxia –kokoelmalta. Kappaleessa yhdistyy hienosti testosteronilla ladattu synkkä hard rock sekä disco-funk inhorealistisen apokalyptiseen visioon New Yorkista. Parasta on tietenkin pelottavan (hyvän) kuuloiset koskettimet.
Auringonlaskuun kävellään lopussa Joe Walshin (tuttu Eaglesista) In The City –hymnin tahtiin. Herkullisuus.

Elokuvan maailman pääsee itse kokemaan videopelin muodossa, sillä Rockstar Games julkaisi vuonna 2005 The Warriors –pelin Xboxille sekä Playstation 2:lle.

Barry De Vorzon — Theme From ‘The Warriors’ (320 kbit)
Joe Walsh — In The City (320 kbit)
Amii Stewart — Knock On Wood (320 kbit)
Vivian Vee — Remember (12″ Version) (206 kbit VBR)

Briefly in English.

What?
Bonafied nostalgic narration about gangs placed in a futuristic 70s of New York.
Inspired by a novel written by Sol Yurick.

The best
+ Blunt worldview
+ Raffish Action
+ Gloomy atmosphere / colors
+ Nighttime New York
+ Corny dialogue

And of course a great synthetic soundtrack delivered to us by Barry De Vorzon.
The theme, which can also be found from reasonably fresh Disco Galaxia collection, is a  testosterone charged grim hard rock and disco-funk hybrid combined with gritty apokalyptic vision of New York. The best is of course frightening (good) creepy keyboards.
At the end we walk to the sunset with Joe Walsh’s (familiar to Eagles) In The City–anthem. Herkullisuus.

The film world can actually be experienced in the form of a video game, as Rockstar Games published it in 2005 for the Xbox and the PlayStation 2. Not many game reach the original atmosphere of the film so well. Highly recommended if the film thrilled you and GTA-style game inspires. Beating up gangsters while listening disco, what could be better ! Dazzling Amii Stewart’s Knock On Wood, as well as Vivian’s Veen Remember, which is btw arranged, by non other than KynyNasty favorite Claudio Simonetti!
