Mix by Japanese turntable virtuoso DJ Sniff. Techno tracks played at 33rpm + various hip-hop cuts. The guy is performing at Äänen Lumo –festival (Charm of Sounds), Helsinki this saturday together with David Toop. Don’t know exactly what to expect but should be interesting.

Timmo — Finnish UG Deep Vol. 1 [Platinum.ac Deep Techno] (320k, 113MB, 49:42 min)

Here’s the story — finnish internetz forum Platinum used to be pretty much number one for some electronic music back in the days. Don’t know about nowdays. So, this Timmo guy of a dj decided to make a mix out of “deeper techno” demo tunes he had collected from Platinum forum during the years 2000–2003. So here you go, all finnish music.

Oh and never mind the last mix between tunes by Akrid and Harrison Fnord, Serato going mental probably because of dust on the needle.

Home again

October 29th, 2007

I was at Berlin 24.10–29.10 visiting my girlfriend. Just got back home. While I managed to miss Arktista Vimmaa –festival, I did see some great live acts at Berlin. On my birthday 25.10 we went to see Bonobo at Lido (first time in Berlin btw). It was great, we both enjoyed it very much. It is interesting to notice how Bonobo has evolved from sample based artist to a full grown soul/acid jazz band. They did play couple of Animal Magic classics tracks too! Recommended.

Lido, Berlin

On friday we went to Club Maria where an event called “Bessere Welten”(a better world) took place. It consisted album release gigs by Magnum 38 and Uusitalo (aka Luomo/Vladislav Delay). I did know what Uusitalo was going to be but Magnum 38 was a bit surprise. Sort of techno/glitch/noise with grasp of punk. Well he has his roots on punk and rock music as I learned later. Surprisingly danceable music though.

I was a bit anxious to hear Uusitalo and it didn’t disappoint me. Now I know why his other alias is called Vladislav Delay. It was all about delay. Well the night was good in all aspects but after listening minimal techno six hours straight up, we decided to leave 5 am, most satisfied.

As if those weren’t enough, we had booked tickets for Prefuse 73’s gig on sunday at Berghain/Panorama bar (with support by Nobody). Friend of mine told me that when he saw Prefuse live, the sound was all fucked up. And it sure was. I have always prefered Prefuse 73 as beautiful, melodic listening experience but in live it was annoingly noisy. Still, the rhythms were quite angular and assertive. Mostly because of the live drummer. Furthermore, the night ended unexpectedly early. The gig started like 22:30 and the place was closed by midnight so in that way it wasn’t very rounded evening at all.

All in all it was great trip to Berlin, again.
