Stickem — Let Skweeedom Ring! mix. Get it here: http://skweee.com/let-skweeedom-ring

Skweee combines simple synth leads and basslines with funk, r’n’b or soul-like rhythms, overall rendering a stripped-down funky sound. The name Skweee was coined by Daniel Savio, one of the originators of the emerging sound. The name refers to the use of vintage synthesizers in the production process, where the aim is to “squeeze out” the most interesting sounds possible.

Or slightly less prosaic:

Skweee, or “Scandinavian Conflict R ‘n’ B” to give it it’s full title, is a genre and a movement that’s emerged around the (respectively Swedish and Finnish) labels Flogsta Danshall and Harmonia. Surfacing mostly on 7” vinyl, the sound is a mismatch of boogaloo electro(nics) and modern, Timbaland/Neptunes-style glitch/bling, seemingly created on equipment available well before you’d ever heard of Timmy and Pharrell. Fuzzy-felt 8-bit synths and crunchy, bit-crushed drum hits dry-hump your ears like Rodney Jerkins trying to craft Beyonce a hit with only an N.E.S. and a minidisc to hand.

This mix showcases many faces of skweee, from its more synth-pop oriented styles to electro-funkin’ licks.

Just in case this was forgotten or you haven’t seen the original video. Feel good despite bit heavy lyrical theme.

Bonus one too. Can’t make up my mind if this is once again those utterly unnecessary “modernized” cover versions of 80s goodness. I like the video though.

Giorgio Moroder (part 2)

January 21st, 2009

Yeah, more about Giorgio Moroder.

Part 2 exactly. Check out part 1 here.

First I want to present this funky and everlasting disco track called “Get on the funk train” by Munich Machine to you all. It was made by Moroder and Pete Bellotte, who formed the band during the seventies (at some point, Gary Unwin was a member also).

Then something else. A promo video clip…

…taken from a Casablanca Records promo tape.”

The quote is taken from YouTube.

By the way, what the hell is his name? The presenter on this video… Jackass? Jack Ash? Whatever, even NASA can’t match that!

The next one is called “Machines”.

A classic sci-fi hit movie “Metropolis” was reissued 1984 in colour and also gifted with a brand new soundtrack! It included two tracks by Moroder called “Machines” and “The legend of Baabel” among all the other great tracks by such artists as Freddie Mercury and Bonnie Tyler. Check it out, and the movie also!

The last one is legendary “Tears” also by Moroder himself. I’m sorry about the quality.

Remember also to visit his MySpace to check out some more info and tunes.
